IOboard-BasEth2 Ethernet Base Module

IOboard-BasEth2
The BasEth Base Module implements the Ethernet (TCP/IP) interface between a controlling computer and the Input/Output (I/O) Modules of an IOboard system. A USB Base Module and a direct RS-422 interface are also available.
The Base Module connects to other I/O Modules in the sub-assembly via an internal bus. In a typical IOboard system, up to 20 I/O Modules, in any combination of analog and digital input and output, can be connected to the Base Module. Using an external 3.3V power supply the number of I/O Modules in the system can be expanded to 200 (addressing limit). The boards in the system are automatically configurable getting addresses during the initialisation.
The BasEth Base Module organizes communications between Controller and the I/O Modules, by passing TCP/IP messages bidirectionally between Controller and I/O Modules, via the bus, by RS-422 differential lines. Only one BasEth Base Module can be connected to the bus.
The Base Module is supplied in a DIN Rail mountable enclosure.
Because all communication and control takes place over Ethernet, the drivers required are already installed in the computers that will be managing and supervising the IOboard system. There is no need to battle with drivers and the typical reliability and management problems associated for example with USB under Windows. there is no Plug and Play, the system is ready to use immediately once connected. Control, management and supervision can be handled using simple commands over the network.

TCP/IP Communication

Message exchanges between a controlling computer and one or more IOboard Modules is done via Chain Protocol. Normally, users do not need to bother about the protocol, they will be using the supplied DLLs for communication with the boards.
With Ethernet communication happens over TCP/IP. The BasEth Module passes messages between the Controller and the I/O Modules. It does not perform any I/O protocol processing, it just provides RS422 <-> Ethernet gateway.
The BasEth2 Module has 2 TCP/IP ports:
Communication speed on the TCP/IP side: 100 messages/sec.
Communication via Basic port 58001 covers the query of TCP/IP parameters like:
Communication via port 58003 realizes the message exchange between the Controller and the I/O Modules connected to the RS422 bus. It is a query channel where the I/O Modules respond to Controller requests. In addition this port conveys events generated in the I/O Modules to the Controller.
